Yesterday, Punakha witnessed a truly memorable Astro-Tourism experience – “Dinner Under the Night Sky”, bringing together nature, innovation, and culture in one extraordinary evening.
Astro-tourism, encompassing stargazing, celestial storytelling, and immersive night-sky experiences, is among the fastest-growing segments globally. With its minimal light pollution, high-altitude valleys, Bhutan is uniquely poised to emerge as a leading dark-sky destination, aligned seamlessly with the principles of Gross National Happiness.
Under a starlit sky, the evening showcased how unique experiential tourism can blend sustainability, culture, and technology—opening new pathways for high-value, low-impact tourism while enhancing rural economic opportunities.
The event marked an encouraging step toward positioning Punakha as a destination for innovative and mindful tourism experiences, inspired by the cosmos and grounded in community aspirations.
We were deeply honored by the presence of the Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment, along with esteemed officials from the Department of Tourism, GovTech Agency, Desuung Skilling Programme and Tourism Industry who joined us in celebrating the emerging potential of astro-tourism in Punakha. Appreciation to the Department of Tourism Secretariat, the Government Technology (GovTech) Agency, Royal Government of Bhutan and @De-suung Skilling Programme for the financial and technical support.
