TOEWANG

Toewang gewog stretches over an area of 414 sq. km. There are 285 households in the gewog, which currently hold a population of 1344 people. The gewog comprises of 9 Chiwogs which have 17 villages.
Toewang is one of the remotest gewogs under Punakha Dzongkhag. It shares its borders with Gasa and Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhags, with an altitude ranging from1250-3700 m abovethe sea level. It experiences cool winters and warm, humid summers. The gewog has 622 acres of wetland, 42 acres of dry land, 5.58 acres of vegetable garden, 1 acre of Tsheri, 105 acres of Sokshing, 82 acres of Pangshing and 4268 acres of Tsamdo. The gewog has one Lower Secondary School, one community primary school, one Basic Health Unit (BHU), one Out Reach Clinic (ORC), one Renewable Natural Resource (RNR) Centre, an Agriculture Extension Centre and one hot spring.

Livestock

The farmers in Toewang Geog basically livestock and agriculture based rearing the local breed of livestock and few improved breeds like Jersey, Mithun, hybrids of poultry, piggery supplied by the Department of Livestock. The Geog Center has access to motorable road network where most parts of the villages it is connected with the mule track. The breed upgradation of the cattle is usually done with cross-breeding through artificial insemination program from the Geog Extension services to the proximity of RNR Center and by natural services through breeding bulls in interior pockets of the Geog. The Livestock Extension services are being catered by the RNR Center, Samadingkha, located in the Geog Center.
