DZOMI

Background
Dzomi gewog is located on the west bank of the Mochhu River, between Shengana and Lingbukha gewogs with an altitude ranging from 1200-2400m above the sea level. It stretches over an area of 20 sq. km. There are 257 households in the gewog, which currently hold a population of 1350 people. The gewog comprises of 8 Chiwogs which have 19 villages.
Dzomi has 458 acres of wetland, 24 acres of dry land, 20 acres of vegetable garden, 34 acres of Sokshing, 33 acres of Pangshing and 1602 acres of Tsamdro.
The gewog has one NFE Centre and one community school. It is accessible by motor-able road from Dzongkhag Headquarters. Due to its proximity to Khuruthang, people of the gewog can market their agricultural and livestock products easily. People of this gewog experience a shortage of construction timber and fuel wood as the forest coverage of this gewog is comparatively lesser than the other gewogs. The gewog has high potential for production of paddy, wheat, mustard and horticultural crops. The terrains offer high potential for crop mechanization.
Livestock


The farmers of Dzomi Geog rear local breed and improved breed livestock like Jersey, Mithun cross, hybrids of poultry, piggery supplied by the Department and integrated with the local livestock population. Since the Geog is accessible to motorable road and crossbreeding of cattle is mostly done through Artificial insemination of Jersey & Mithun from veterinary Hospital in addition department is also providing the breeding bulls to the far-flung area where there is not accessible to Artificial Insemination. Geog has existing perennial sub-tropical pasture of 0.5 acreage because farmers have limited land holding for pasture development where by farmers are going for fodder tree plantation & winter oat. The services of the Livestock Sector to the farmers are being catered by the Veterinary Hospital, Punakha. The Geog has no separate RNR Centre till date and it is proposed during the 10th Five Year Plan.
