LINGMUKHA

Background
Lingmukha gewog stretches over an area of 25 sq. km. There are 124 households in the gewog, which currently hold a population of 597 people. The gewog comprises of 6 Chiwogs which have 16 villages. It is located between Shengana gewog and Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag.
Lingbukha experiences sub-tropical climate which has usually cool winters and warm, humid summers. The annual rainfall ranges from 500 mm to 1500 mm. The temperature ranges from 5 degree Celsius to 30 degree Celsius. The altitude of the gewog ranges from 1200-3000 m above sea level.
The Gewog has 75% of its land under forest coverage. It has 343 acres of wetland, 136 acres of dry land, 12 acres of orchard, 45 acres of Sokshing, 20 acres of Pangshing and 149 acres of Tsamdro.
The gewog has one Basic Health Unit (BHU), one primary school, an Agriculture Extension Centre, a livestock extension center and a Forest Beat office. The upper part of the gewog has extensive forest cover and people have easy access to forest resources. The gewog has high potential for paddy, wheat, mustard, maize and horticulture production. Livestock

Current Situation
The Gewog is one of the far off Gewogs in the Dzongkhag ranging from the altitude of 1500 – 2200 meters above sea-level. The farmers in this Gewog rear mostly the local breeds of livestock with some introduction of improved types like Jersey, Mithun, hybrids of poultry, piggery etc supplied by the Department and integrated with the local livestock population. The Department supplies the breeding stocks based on the actual demand of the farmers that are basically Jersey bull, Mithun bull, breeding boar etc for cross-breeding program. The artificial insemination is also being done in few pockets of Gumakarm, and Esukha Chiwogs under Lingmukha Gewog by the Dzongkhag from Veterinary Hospital, Punakha. The Gewog also has perennial subtropical improved pasture of 3.82 acres developed by the farmers of Nabchey Chiwog through farmers group organization called Nabchey Phensum Gongphyel Tshogpa formed mainly for livestock production promotional program. The Gewog Livestock services are catered by the Livestock Extension Centre, situated at Tshochasa Geog Center.
