Background
Shenga Bjime gewog stretches over an area of 69 sq. km. There are 284 households in the gewog,
which currently hold a regular household population of 1257. The gewog comprises of 9 Chiwogs which have 23 villages.
Shenga Bjime shares its borders with
Toewang gewog in the North, Lingmukha gewog and Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag in the South and Dzomi gewog in the West.
The Gewog experiences warm and humid
summer temperature touching up to 30 degree centigrade. The altitude of the gewog ranges from 1480-3800 m above sea level. About 10 km of feeder road
connects the gewog. The gewog has 60% of its land under forest coverage. It has about 618 acres of wetland, 81 acres of dry land, 46 acres of Tsheri, 391
acres of Sokshing and 4016 acres of Tsamdro. The gewog has one Renewable Natural Resource (RNR) Centre, one Basic Health Unit (BHU), one Lower Secondary
School, and about 10 km of feeder road.
Livestock
Current Situation
The farmers of Shenga-Bjeme Geog rears mostly the local breed of
livestock with some introduction of improved breeds like Jersey, Mithun, hybrids of poultry, and piggery supplied by the Department for cross breeding
program. The Department has supplied the breeding stocks like Jersey, Mithun for crossbreeding since the Geog has no artificial insemination service in the
9th FYP. This Geog has perennial subtropical improved pasture of 3 acres and fodder trees and oat species developed by the farmers. The Geog RNR Centre
centrally located at Dewagang caters the extension support services to the farmers in the Geog.
