Profile of Toebisa Gewog
Toebisa Gewog was under Thimphu Dzongkhag until it was merged to Punakha Dzongkhag on 15th January2008. Headed by the Gup Dorji Norbu, Mangup Sangay and Clerk Tenzin, the Gewog has 19villages with 16chiwogs. It has Eight Tshogpas.
The East-West highway passes through the Gewog. The gewog has 346 households with a population of about 3000 plus. The total area of the gewog is 95.99 sq.km(approx). Elevation ranges from 1709m to 3200m above sea level. The gewog lies in sub tropical region with hot and humid summer, heavy rainfall during monsoon and cold winter.
All the sixteen main Chiwogs has been electrified. Toebisa Gewog has three schools including a Middle Secondary and two Community Primary School.
BHU
The grade2 BHU in Thinlay gang has in total four staffs including the BHU caretaker. It was first established as dispensary in 1977. It was later upgraded in 1987. The BHU was newly established in 1991. The only ORC is located at Begana. In total, Toepisa Gewog has 9 vectors.
Agriculture
Majority of the Chiwogs practice wet land cultivation over dry land cultivation. Paddy is the main cereal followed by the spring wheat. Other crops like mustard, asparagus and potato etc; are grown. Cash crop for commercial production is limited due to small size land holdings in the Gewog. In 9th plan, priority was given mainly for paddy and wheat production. With a population of about three thousand plus, majority of farmers practice Subsistence Farming. Farmers cultivate Cereal crops like paddy, wheat, barley, maize, mustard etc. along with cash crops like Beans, Cabbage, tomato, Radish, Cauliflower, orange, apple, per sum, walnut, Pear, Peach, plum, Guava, cucumber etc.
Livestock
Farmers rear different livestock with local cattle consisting of larger percentage.
Education
So far, the Gewog has a middle secondary school and two community primary school in Thinlay gang and Begana . In Middle Secondary School, it has 485students with 18 teachers. The CPS in Thinlay gang houses around 68 students with 3 teachers. We have 3NFE Centres. The Gewog plans to construct two upcoming CPS in Menday gang and Renakha which is included in 10th FYP.
