Background Chubu is the third largest gewog under Punakha Dzongkhag and it stretches over an area of 90 sq. km. There are 305 households in the gewog, which currently hold a regular household population of 1655 people. The gewog comprises of 7 Chiwogs which have 16 villages. Chhubu is located between the Phochhu and the Mochhu. The gewog has a very limited agricultural land. Of the total cultivated land, around 437 acres are devoted to paddy, 39 acres for dry land cultivation and around 57 acres to vegetables. The gewog has three Out Reach Clinic (ORCs) which provides primary health services to the far flung villages. Due to close proximity of villages to Kabjisa, Guma and Toewang gewogs, the people of Chhubu gewog avail services from these nearby gewogs.

The farmers in Chubu Gewog rear mostly the local breed of livestock with some introduction of improved breeds like Jersey, Mithun, hybrids of poultry, piggery supplied by the Department and integrated with the local livestock population. Since the Gewog has no motorable road network, the crossbreeding of the local equine population with Haflinger breeding stallion has played the significant role as draft animals or means of transportation for transporting their basic need of the farmers.
Till date, the Livestock Extension services are being catered by the RNR Center, Samdingkha, which is centrally located for Toewang Gewog. However, the new RNR Center construction for Chubu Gewog is projected in 10th Five Year Plan accordingly.
