Punakha Dzongkhag Receives Central Monastic Body to Winter Residence

Venerable Dorji Lopen and monks of the Central Monastic Body arrived at Punakha for their winter residence from Thimphu today.

In keeping with tradition, the Central Monastic Body will spend the next six months in Punakha and will return Thimphu on the first day of the fourth Bhutanese month.

Thousands of residents of Punakha received blessings from the Zhabdrung's sacred relics along the way.

The tradition of maintaining a summer and winter residence was first introduced by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in the 17th century.
