21 February 2019

A 13-year-old Yeshi Tsheyang Zam published her second book. The new book ‘Lolay’- a book on series of children’s illustrated stories on obscure Bhutanese culture was released coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty the King on 21st February 2019 at Lekithang ground, Punakha.

"After a few months of journeying the south, the sun is back now. And in Thimphu, that comes with the sound of children caroling, praying you the best year ahead. In Yeshi Tsheyang‘s sequel to book Khakey, she tells the story of the festival of Lolay, another western Bhutan specialty. On the eve of the Nyilo- the first day of winter and the shortest after which the days start getting longer until the Summer Solstice which is  typically in the first week of January, the children gather in groups and go caroling around the village singing  Lolay- a traditional verse of good wishes .“

Currently, Yeshi is a class nine student of Ugyen Academy. She likes to read, watch television, play video games and basketball during her free hours. An author of the book “Lolay” wrote her first book ‘Khakey’ at the age of 11 and has already started to work on her third book.
