Youth Engagement Program Ends Today

Youth Engagement Camp under Punakha Dzongkhag which is commenced from 30th June 2019 ends today. The day was graced by the Hon'ble Sherig Lynpo. This program with the theme Creating Ripples of Happiness” is being conducted for the first time in the Dzongkhag as well as in the nation. The focus group of students are either from divorced or single parents, or are orphans as most of the problems in schools basically erupt from the children who are from the single, or divorced parents, or are orphans. The main problems encountered with those students are listed below:

  •  They are academically poor.
  • Often involves drug abuse
  • Lack (Thadamtse and Lay Jumdrey) as they have not received proper care and guidance.
  • High risk of involving in a gang fight
  • Teenage pregnancy
  • Finally, social stigma is arising from the parent’s behavior.

The main purpose of the YEP is to infuse a sense of oneness, inculcate the values of care and feelings of homeliness, to promote the spirit of volunteerism and to engage them meaningfully during their long summer vacation. One of the motives behind such YEP is to create an opportunity for young people to develop new skills and knowledge through mass participation in various exciting activities designed for their educational purpose and recreational needs. Further, it is also to infuse positive relationship within the family, promote positive parenting, reduce children’s unproductive work ethics, and reduces stress caused by family separation and mainly to increase harmony among family members.

During the camp, the participants were learned on Driglam Namzha, Life Skills, Law, Counselling and Youth Behaviors, Choshey Leyrim and many other youth-related programs by the guest speakers. A total of 257 youths (93 boys & 164 girls) from Punakha CS, Kabesa CS, Dechentsemo CS, Dashiding AS, Khuruthang MS, Tashidingkha CS, Lobesa LSS, Jibjokha LSS, and Shengana LSS has participated for the program.
