Goenshari

Goenshari gewog is located south of Gasa Dzongkhag and it stretches over an area of 88.4 sq. km as per LCMP 2010. There are 129 households in the gewog, which currently hold a regular population of 622 people. The gewog comprises five chiwogs.
The climate of the gewog is sub-tropical which has usually cold winters with warm and humid summers. The annual rainfall ranges from 500mm to 1500mm in the gewog. The maximum and minimum temperatures range from 4 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius.
Goenshari has around 90% of its total area under forest cover. Broad-leaf forest accounts for 70% and Coniferous forest about 20% of the total forest coverage. About 5% of the land is cultivable while the rests are shrub forest and natural pasture. The gewog falls in the Jigme Dorji National Park and has a wide variety of flora and fauna. The Gewog has the lowest number of households among other Gewogs in the Dzongkhag and rears mostly the local breed of livestock with some introduction of improved breeds like Jersey, Brown Swiss, Mithun, hybrids of poultry and piggery supplied by the Department of Livestock and integrated with the local livestock population.

The Punakha-Gasa highway runs through the gewog. However, some villages like Gumgang, Goen Tshephu, Ritsho Gonpa, Nangse Gonpa, Yourbu, Balana, and Komang Tshachhu are more than two hours walking distance from the road head. There are two suspension bridges.

The gewog has one primary school, one Out Reach Clinic (ORC), one BHU, one RNR, one Multi-purpose hall, and one community center. All the households have access to clean drinking water. The gewog has one hot spring which is effective for joint and muscle pains.
