Nationwide Accelerated Dog Population Management & Rabies Control Program started at Toedwang Gewog 

The accelerated dog population and rabies control program covering 2 Gewogs of Toedwang and Chhubu started at Toedwang Gewog from 29th March 2022 and will be held until 11th April 2022. The opening program was graced by Dasho Dzongdag attended by Dasho Dzongrab, Desuup Gothrip and Local Government members of Chhubu and Toedwang Gewogs. This is a joint engagement of Department of Livestock, Desuups, Local Government and General Public. A total of 30 Desuups are taking part in this program who will be involved in dog catching, release and animal welfare, while the two surgeon team of Dzongkhag Livestock Sector are engaged in the surgical interventions.

The main objectives of this program are to achieve 100% sterilization coverage of free-roaming dogs within two weeks and ensure mandatory registration and digital identification of owned dogs. Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release (CNVR) is the main strategy implementing in this program to effectively manage dog population in a scientific, humane, and sustainable manner. A similar program shall be conducted at nine other Gewogs from 18th April 2022.
