Punakha Welcomed Central Monastic Body

16 November 2020

Corresponding with the first day of the tenth lunar month, the Central Monk Body led by Dorji Lopen has arrived in Punakha for winter residence.

The Central Monastic Body arrived with the sacred relics after spending six months at Tashichhidzong in Thimphu. The Zhung Dratshang will spend the next six months in Punakha and will return to Thimphu on the first day of the fourth Bhutanese month.

Initially, the Soelthab used to move on the 30th day of the ninth Bhutanese month and arrives at Punakha the next day after a night halt at Thinleygang. However, in compliance with the health protocols amid the pandemic, the Soelthab moved directly to the winter residence without following the age-old tradition of night halt at Thinleygang, this year.
